In August, 2014 the eight week occupation of the headquarters of Electricité du Liban in Beirut by workers came to a head. The action was nominally over contract labourers not being given full time positions, however, nothing in Lebanon exists without political intrigue, and EDL is no exception. EDL has had billions of dollars pumped into it but electricity supply remains sporadic in Lebanon - in some places it is non-existent -something which is sometimes blamed on the influx of refugees but it predates the refugee crisis; lack of investment in infrastructure and corruption are the true causes.
